I was at the US Botanic Garden with my new Canon PowerShot taking shots of the beautiful orchids when I realized it stopped raining. In the morning, it was in the high 60s so it was unusually warm, but by midday it dropped several degrees and it was pouring rain. When I realized it had stopped and saw the sun come out, my instincts told me to rush outside and photograph whatever I could. This shot of the Washington Monument was taken at the Reflecting Pool in front of Capitol Hill.
By the way, I really am very happy with my new Canon PowerShot. It's not your oversimplified "point-and-shoot," but it is the right size and it provides enough flexibility for what I want to do. =D
UPDATE (June 2008): It's been way too long since I last updated but in the past month I finished my dissertation, graduated with my degree, will move to Iowa for my new job, and bought myself a brand spankin' new Nikon D60 for my graduation gift. Hooray for toys!
KINDA' SORTA' FAMOUS?: I am happy to inform you that my shot of the glass canopy of Kogod Courtyard was selected as the inaugural banner image for the release of Face to Face, the art and history blog for the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution. And yes they did ask for permission first and credited me by name. Wahoo!!!
