No, this shot is not a photo-enhanced edit of the previous shot. It really is another lightning strike and it is almost on top of me. It's more intense and brilliant though I think the brilliance is also due to me not quite setting the aperture correctly (and being freaked out by the awesome display). The only manipulation is the fact that this strike was the first shot that I took in the series. If you look at the point of origin in the clouds with the previous shot, you'll see that the lightning is -- thankfully -- moving away from me. But I thought that this capture was a more fitting end in terms of intensity.
There's also nothing like being at ground zero of a lightning storm. It is a spectacular sight, an awesome dance in the night sky, and a truly frightening experience. It was only after the storm was over that I realized, with the help of my girlfriend's horrified expression, that it was quite dangerous to be outside ... on the balcony ... six stories up ... leaning against a steel partition. Yep, I am an official idiot.
KINDA' SORTA' FAMOUS?: I am happy to inform you that my shot of the glass canopy of Kogod Courtyard was featured as a banner for the blog of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery called Face to Face.

@daviddesousa: Thank you daviddesousa!
I understand the title now. This is a display of its power of origin, followed by its 'manifestation' as a body and then the 'legs' appear before disappearing off into the distance. Really marvelous when seen in its entirety via the portfolio.

@étranger: You hit it right on the mark! I'm so happy that you saw it too! =D
I do prefer yesterdays one to this, but the sheer energy conveyed in this is really cool. Would love to try shots like this one day but we just don't get the weather over here!
